Chasing For Science! in ARC Raiders can get weird fast. It sounds like one of those things you’ll pick up naturally, then you realise that’s not happening. The game wants Gas, Stun, and Burn on your character at the same moment, and normal fights just don’t line up that neatly. If you’re missing gear, it helps to sort your ARC Raiders Items before heading out, because this achievement is really about setup more than skill. You’re basically building a little self-inflicted disaster and hoping the game recognises it.
What you need first
Start with the easy part. Gas comes from a Gas Grenade, and Stun comes from a Jolt Mine. The grenade leaves a cloud behind, so you need to stay inside it instead of tossing it away like you normally would. The mine is a bit different. You place it on the floor, then trigger its shock pulse by being close enough when it goes off. Most players won’t struggle to get these two. You can craft them, sure, but grabbing them from Apollo is usually quicker if he’s selling them that day. Burn is the annoying one. For that, you need a Blaze Grenade, and there’s no shortcut vendor option. You’ve got to craft it yourself at an Explosives Station, which means farming the materials ahead of time.
Why the timing feels awkward
This is where people usually mess it up. The three effects don’t last forever, and they don’t all apply in exactly the same way. Gas needs you standing in the cloud. Burn needs you close enough to the fire patch to actually catch. Stun needs the mine to pulse while you’re still in position. So if you panic-move, or throw one of the explosives a little too far out, the whole attempt is wasted. It’s not difficult in a combat sense. It’s just fiddly. And since both fire and gas are chewing through your health, there’s always that small moment where you’re wondering if you’re about to down yourself for nothing.
The safest way to do it
Pick a quiet area first. That matters more than people think, because even one random enemy pushing you can ruin the spacing. Step 1, place the Jolt Mine right under you. Step 2, toss the Gas Grenade so the cloud forms where you’re already standing. Step 3, throw the Blaze Grenade at your feet and don’t drift out of the radius. If you do it right, the fire should ignite you while the mine shocks you and the gas is still active. You’ll want enough health before trying it, obviously, because the damage stacks up pretty quickly. Some players even clear the area, wait a second, then do the whole thing in one clean sequence without moving at all.
When it still doesn’t pop
Even with the right method, the achievement can be a little flaky. That’s the part nobody likes. Sometimes everything looks correct on screen and the unlock still doesn’t happen. If that happens, just reset and try again with tighter timing. Don’t overthink it, but don’t rush either. A lot of players get it on the second or third go once they’ve got the rhythm down. If you’re already putting together a loadout for repeat attempts, it’s worth checking your explosives and your ARC Raiders Weapon choices too, since surviving the setup is a lot easier when the rest of your kit isn’t a mess.At U4GM, ARC Raiders gets a whole lot less frustrating when you’re lining up tricky stuff like the For Science! achievement. Gas, Stun, and Burn won’t just happen by luck, so having the right gear ready matters.
